Golden Mylk

An ancient soul-soothing recipe to see you through this winter!

Turmeric is the main ingredient in this immune-boosting earthy drink. It's the spice of the moment. It's an incredible immune booster and is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods. You might be more used to seeing this added to curry dishes but it's all about the Turmeric Latte now. The star compound in turmeric is curcumin which has been found to help with inflammation, stomach pain, headaches, arthritis etc.

I'm firmly on the turmeric bandwagon and use this warming spice in as many recipes as I can.

Just a quick heads up - turmeric is a nightmare for staining. Both my hands and kitchen seem to permanently have a luminous yellow tinge to them due to the indelible staining properties of this spice. It's fine though, it comes out. After about 30 scrubs.

Ingredients

1 inch piece of grated ginger

1 tbsp grated turmeric

1 tsp cinnamon

Coconut milk or almond milk (or any kind of nut milk)

2 crushed cardamom pods (remove outer shell)

1/2 tsp cloves

Pinch of black pepper

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1-2 tbsps raw honey (or maple syrup)

1 tsp coconut oil

Method

1. Heat the milk in a saucepan over a medium heat until it starts simmering

2. Add the remaining ingredients and whisk until everything is combined and smooth

3. Sieve if you don't want the lumps of turmeric ginger in there and serve immediately! (FYI it's just as lovely cooled down too. I have just discovered this after finishing writing this blog post and had forgotten I had made one earlier!)
