about meditation

"We meditate so that we can inundate our whole being with the powerful presence of peace"

There is nothing more valuable than a peaceful mind. So often our mind rushes about looking for happiness. Meditation turns the mind inwards to find that stillness lies beyond the thoughts. It is the practice by which there is constant observation of the mind. Meditation can give profound benefits in terms of physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It brings increased awareness, attention and clarity of mind, helps us recover and manage stress better and generally improves our overall wellbeing and energy levels.

Our sympathetic nervous system kicks in when we are stressed or under threat. Digestion becomes less essential and our digestive system is impacted negatively. Therefore our stress response holds great influence over our digestion and metabolism. We can have the most wonderfully healthy food on our plate, but if our sympathetic nervous system is activated, then our bodies cannot fully assimilate the nutrition we're ingesting.

The good news, however, is that we can improve our digestive wellness by simply shifting out of the physiologic stress response and into parasympathetic nervous system activation. Parasympathetic nervous system improves our digestion and increases intestinal activity.

So how do we activate the parasympathetic nervous system?

This is where meditation comes in. Meditation activates our parasympathetic nervous system.
