Grow Your Own Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet, and growing your own can be a great way to ensure you're getting those much needed vitamins and minerals and there is nothing quite like tasting fruit and vegetables that you've grown yourself!

Gardening has recently become a huge passion of mine and I've started to grow my own vegetables. Being sustainable and creating a little oasis doesn't take much. If you have a patio, a windowsill, a small outside area, whatever it may be, then you can grow your own. It's much easier than you might think and all it takes is a little determination and a lot of love on your part. Also the ability to not lose your cool over the destructive nature of slugs that always seem to seek out your favourite vegetables is essential.

I have one bean plant left slugs, one. I will not let you take him. You've taken my other four, he's all I have left. At 10pm the other night I noticed a group of slugs making their way up said bean plant. I could not believe what I was witnessing. How dare they? My grandad bought me that plant. Like a possessed mad woman, I stormed into the garden with my dressing gown billowing behind me. My eyes were glowing red and steam was billowing out of my ears. I prised off those evil plant-sucking, joy-stealing, greedy little slime balls and told them to "stay off my patch lads. This garden ain't big enough for the two of us." Don't you worry vegetables, I got you.

There are many ways to grow your own fruit and vegetables.

If you have a garden, that's a great place to start. But if you don’t, there are other options:

-Grow in a container that stands in a patio or on a balcony.

- Look into community garden schemes in your area or rent an allotment from your local council.
